“Serem dengerin berita mau ada asteroid tgl jumat 8 mei 15 ramadhan. Bismillah ya Allaah."
"Serem tapi kita cuma bisa berdoa dan pasrah”.
Pertanyaannya benarkah hal tersebut?
Dilansir dari kompas.com pada Rabu (6/5/2020), Kepala Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional (LAPAN) Thomas Djamaludin, mengatakan informasi tersebut tidak benar.
“Jelas hoaks," ungkap Thomas.
"Tidak ada asteroid yang akan menabrak Bumi."
Menurut Thomas, beberapa asteroid hanya melintas pada jarak aman yakni lebih jauh daripada jarak Bumi-Bulan.
Sementara itu, Emmanuel Sungging Mumpuni, Peneliti dari Pusat Sains Antariksa (Pusainsa) Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa (LAPAN) juga mengatakan hal serupa.
“Tidak betul. Beberapa asteroid yang berpotensi berbahaya sudah kami muat di web LAPAN,” ujar dia kepada Kompas.com pada Selasa (5/5/2020).
Asteroid akan dekati Bumi
Sementara itu melansir dari Website Pusat Sains Lapan, disebutkan pada pertengahan Ramadhan akan ada asteroid yang mendekati bumi yakni Asteroid 2016 HP6 dan Asteroid 2009 XO.
Asteroid 2009XO akan mendekati bumi pada Kamis, 7 Mei 2020 pukul 12.17 Universal Time atau malam 15 Ramadhan 1441 H pukul 19.17 WIB.
Asteroid tersebut berukuran lebih cepat dan lebih besar dibanding Asteroid 2016 HP6 dan akan berada pada jarak 3,4 juta kilometer.
Terkait dengan hal tersebut, Sungging menjelaskan, asteroid mendekat ke Bumi hanya melintas dengan jarak aman.
“Dia (Asteroid 2009 XO) mendekat Bumi dengan jarak 4X jarak bumi-bulan, jadi masih relatif aman,” terang Sungging.
Sungging menjelaskan, selain tidak menabrak Bumi, asteroid tersebut juga tidak akan menimbulkan dampak apapun.
“Tidak ada efek, untuk diamati juga tidak mudah,” terang Sungging.
Lebih lanjut ia menerangkan, gerakan asteroid ada yang berada dalam orbit tertentu, ada juga yang bergerak liar.
Asteroid yang bergerak liar inilah yang kemudian perlu diwaspadai sebagai Potensial Hazard Object (PHO) dan harus terus menerus diawasi.
Asteroid XO sendiri termasuk asteroid yang dianggap berpotensi berbahaya, akan tetapi ia menyampaikan ada program internasional untuk selalu mengamati asteroid-asteroid yang punya potensi membahayakan Bumi.(*)
